Risk Framework in Paperly
Paperly comes preloaded with a comprehensive risk framework that schools can use straight away or customise to align with their own policies.
This framework covers:
Risk Likelihoods – how probable a risk is to occur.
Risk Impacts – the severity of the consequence if the risk occurs.
Risk Ratings – the overall risk level, calculated automatically by combining likelihood × impact.
Risks – a library of preloaded risks that schools can remove or tailor to meet their needs.
Risk Likelihoods
Default Likelihood Ratings
Almost Certain
Likely
Possible
Unlikely
Rare
N/A
Likelihood Areas
Frequency – e.g. “Almost certain to occur in the next 3 months.”
Probability – e.g. “>80% chance of occurring.”
Experience – e.g. “Not unusual to happen.”
Each likelihood rating (e.g. Likely, Possible, Rare) is defined across these areas.
Risk Impacts
Default Impact Ratings (with colour coding)
Low
Moderate
High
Extreme
N/A
Impact Areas
Health
Physical Assets
Non-Physical Assets
Business Interruption
Reputation
Annual Operating Revenue
Governance Impact
Staff Morale & Performance
Life/Health
Each impact rating (e.g. Minor, Moderate, Major, Severe) is defined across these areas.
Example – Major Health Impact
Life-threatening injury requiring lengthy hospitalisation or rehabilitation.
More than one month off school/work.
Risk Ratings (Matrix)
Paperly automatically combines Likelihood × Impact to calculate an overall risk rating.
Default Risk Ratings
Low
Moderate
High
Extreme
N/A
Preloaded Matrix
Each combination (e.g. Likely + Major) has a default risk rating with clear colour coding.
Configuration
Schools can edit the matrix to reflect their own risk management frameworks.
Thresholds and labels can be adjusted.
Additional rating levels can be added.
Risks
Paperly includes a set of preloaded risks across different categories, which can be customised:
Schools may remove risks that do not apply to their context.
Schools can add their own risks to align with local policies, regulations, or unique circumstances.
Each risk can be linked to likelihoods, impacts, and controls to provide a complete view of risk management.
Tooltips for Staff
When staff complete a risk assessment, tooltips appear beside each risk field:
Initial Risk Likelihood
Initial Risk Impact
Residual Risk Likelihood
Residual Risk Impact
These tooltips display the school’s configured likelihood and impact areas. Descriptions guide staff in selecting the most appropriate rating, ensuring decisions are consistent and well documented.
⚠️ Important
Edits to risks, likelihoods, impacts, or ratings apply system-wide and will affect all excursions where they are referenced.
