What is an Activity Type?
Activity types are a lower-level category within an excursion type, giving schools an extra layer of organisation and control. They aren’t just labels—activity types connect directly to key areas of the Excursions module:
Risks: All risks must be tagged with an excursion type, and they can also be tagged with activity types. This ensures that risks only apply where relevant. For example, risks linked to Whitewater Rafting or Hiking will only appear when those activity types are selected.
Ratios: Ratios must be tagged with an excursion type and can optionally be tagged with activity types. This allows schools to enforce different staff-to-student ratios for specific activities. For example, excursions involving Swimming may require more staff than a general excursion.
How Activity Types Work
Assignment: Every activity type must be linked to an excursion type.
Excursion Creation: When creating an excursion, staff first select the excursion type. If that excursion type has associated activity types, the Activity Type dropdown will appear.
Optional Selection: Choosing an activity type is optional. If no activity type applies, staff can leave the field blank.
By combining excursion types and activity types, schools can more precisely categorise excursions, apply the right risks and ratios, and streamline the planning and approval process.
