What does “Is the activity compulsory for students?” mean?

Modified on Fri, 6 Feb at 9:19 AM

Where you’ll see this

When creating an excursion, under Activity Specifics, you’ll see the setting:
“Is the activity compulsory for students?” (Yes/No)

What it means

Setting this to Yes marks the excursion as compulsory (mandatory attendance) for the selected students.

This setting does not change the permission or approval workflow, it simply flags the excursion as compulsory.

Does “Compulsory” remove the need for parent permission?

No. Parents still need to provide permission via the Parent Portal.

  • Parents will still receive the approval task in their dashboard

  • Parents must still submit their response for the student’s status to move forward

Are students automatically approved if the excursion is compulsory?

No. Students added to the excursion will still default to Pending status.

There is no automatic approval tied to the compulsory flag

What changes for parents?

When an excursion is marked compulsory, it affects what parents can do:

  • The Decline option is removed

  • Parents can still approve/confirm permission as required

Key Notes

✅ Compulsory = mandatory attendance
❌ Does not bypass parent permission
❌ Does not auto-approve students
